Cyclamen Pests

The following information has been compiled from our experience growing Cyclamen in Central California. Your regional pests and control techniques may very.

Cyclamen Mite: The mites natural habit, of hiding in the moist part of the plant, makes this pest hard to see. Going unnoticed the mite population develops quickly. Warm conditions inside greenhouses increases a mite's reproduction cycle. The main target are the flowers and developing buds. Treat with approved chemicals early. There has been some success with biological control methods.

Thrips: During early stages of development the thrip is not easily noticed. Awaiting their maturity into adults they hide inside the plant. The adult measure 2mm in length. Thrips damage the flower, making it blotched and discolored. An early chemical program is essential in controlling this pest.
