Perennial  Cyclamen and Flower Bulbs

The Hortus Group started early on the evaluation of the perennial Cyclamen types. These corms originated in Europe, parts of southern France, Italy, Greece and Turkey.

Some of these Cyclamen are extremely winter hardy, withstanding temperatures to –20F, and have good heat tolerance and require little water.

The following are some of the species that are commercially available.

Hardy to –4F:

Cilicium

Coum

Hederifolium(-20F)

Parvifolium

Pseudilibericum

Purpurascens

Hardy to 7F:

Colchicum

Coum elegans

Intaminatum

Mirabile

Repandum

Trochopteranthum

Tender:

Balaericum

Creticum

Graecum

Libanoticum

Persicum

Rohlfsianum

The most popular pot plant and landscape used Cyclamen is the Cyclamen persicum. The future is very bright for this beautiful plant and its excellent performance.

For a perennial Cyclamen, the Cyclamen hederifolium and coum are readily available.

The remaining species listed are collector’s items and with a little help from some home growers or garden club, an interested grower could locate them.
